As a great year in music ends, we take a look back at some of the artists who broke through and made it big in the industry. Ones like Frank Ocean, Carly Rae Jepsen and Kendrick Lamar come to mind in terms of how truly big they made it in such a short period of time. For the 2013 calendar year coming up, the one artist that should be like those three and then some is BNW Global recording artist Shyan Selah. A self described “Rock vocalist with hip-hop roots”, Shyan defies what it is to be the norm in today’s music world. On top of being a phenomenal musician and vocalist, he has spent quite a good amount of time giving back to several different charities and organizations.

He has championed the fight against breast cancer with his song “Pink Butterfly (featured in this article)”. The video illustrates women under the age of 40 who have survived breast cancer and since it’s inception has had over 70,000 views. He wrote it from a man’s point of view, duly noting on his website – “With this video, I really wanted to get the attention of men to raise awareness of this issue,” says Selah. “The song is told from a male’s point of view who has fallen for this girl and can’t understand why she’s aloof, why she has mood swings, why she’s distant. He doesn’t know, and therefore, the listener isn’t aware until it’s shown in the video.”

This past Saturday I had the great opportunity to talk to the Washington state native about this project as well as so many other facets with his career, including his upcoming project “City Of Angels” which promises to be one of the best sets to come out in 2013…
